Freemasonry in Yorkshire, North & East Ridings

Are you thinking of joining Freemasonry in the Whitby or Yorkshire area? Are you wondering how to become a Freemason and be part of a unique worldwide organisation?

If you live or work in the Whitby or North Yorkshire area and think you may like to join a Masonic Lodge why not consider joining us at Lion Lodge in Whitby.

People from all walks of life choose to become a Freemason for a variety of reasons. Some are attracted by the valuable work that the movement performs in raising money for charity. A proportion of these funds is used to assist Freemasons and their dependants in times of need, particularly the sick and elderly, but the greater part goes to non-Masonic charities.

Others join for the friendship with fellow brothers, not only in this lodge, but worldwide and of course the interest in our ancient and interesting rituals.

What does it cost?

The annual membership subscription is currently £165, commencing in January, with a one-off joining (Initiation) fee of £75. The meeting is followed by a formal dinner which currently costs £11.

Whilst members are also encouraged to make donations to Masonic Charities, this is entirely voluntary and will only be what an individual member can afford.

Dress Code

Attendance at a Lodge meeting  requires that members wear a dark lounge suit, white shirt, black tie and black shoes. In time, items of regalia will be required which, initially, will not be expensive.
